5E A Collection of D&D Class Guides
A couple things to mention first though: Personally, I am not interested in dpr builds at level That's why this character is level I feel like the game is less about damage at level 20, and it's just a less often played tier of the game.
This character does not utilize feats to increase damage output, but it goes without saying that those are very valid options. When considering the damage output of this character, none of the stats really matter except the dexterity. This character is intended to scale harder than other classes, and benefit more from magical effects like haste and magical weapons.
It only takes a minute to sign up. I want my main damage source to be a Shillelagh'd weapon and squeeze that source for all it's worth.
Since you have a number of criteria, I had to go through each one by importance to find the best build or builds in this case. You can find a TL;DR below with a description of my methods after.
Starting Equipment: with just starting equipment, Hill Dwarf is a slightly better secondary race Scale Mail not needed if Warforged Quarterstaff. I skipped Monk and Sorcerer because they offer strictly less than Fighter and Wizard respectively no matter what build you choose.
You can check out the class name sheets of this spreadsheet for some other builds which were elimintated as well as how these builds were decided. Each build includes Hunter's Mark damage. I used Colossus Slayer as the Hunter's Prey choice for simplicity, other options are explored later.
Each build includes Hex damage. I assumed that you could get one-fourth of your attacks on the target of Hexblade's Curse within short rests for the calculation.
I assumed you could hit a second target with Green-Flame Blade on one-third of your attacks. You can check out the "Classes" sheet of this spreadsheet for which builds were considered.
You can check out the "Warlock vs Ranger" sheet of this spreadsheet for which builds were considered, as well as which builds are better with which combinations of AC and advantage. Each of the five builds we arrived at have passable resource-less DPR, but they each have features that allow for other damage-increasing effects usually one or a few times before a short or long rest. It is all but impossible to evaluate which is best, so I will just give my thoughts:.
Since all of these five builds are approximately equal when it comes to damage output, let's evaluate them based on your second criteria. I used this spreadsheet to calculate EHPwhich assumes, among other things source Furthermore, the Elven Horizon Walker can't keep up because of the race restrictions of Elven Accuracy.
If Warforged are not an option for your table, there are two races to substitute depending on what equipment you get:. The armors for these non-Warforged builds are Scale Mail for starting equipment Leather for the Warlockand Half Plate for best mundane. First of all, you should choose the one that is more fitting of your campaign. If you don't expect any of these to present itself more than any other, then we move to your bonus criterion:.
Wisdom is one of the Ranger's main stats, you get martial features that are very strong at this level, as well as very strong utility in the form of spells and abilities. Combat-wise, you get:. You also get Favored Enemy, Natural Explorer and non-combat spells, for utility. Compared with the Fighter, you lose some AC medium-armor onlybut you may not have disadvantage on Stealth checks, depending on which armor you choose to use.
Draconic Sorcerer gets an increased AC and extra health stack it with Hill Dwarf to have an unreasonably healthy sorcerer.Be civil to one another - Unacceptable behavior includes name calling, taunting, baiting, flaming, etc.
The intent is for everyone to act as civil adults. Respect the opinions of others - Each table is unique; just because someone plays differently to you it does not make them wrong. You don't have to agree with them, but you also don't have to argue or harass them about it. Do not suggest ways for such material to be obtained.
First, the DPR without using major resources, here are the best builds for each class:

Start as a Sorcerer for prof in con saves and somewhere along the way pick up or 4 for a stat bump levels of Warlock and finish out as a sorcerer.

Note: I would rather having no shenanigans 2. Many most optimization questions have answers stating the best build from 0 to 20 AC, so I don't see this as a problem. Other than that, shenanigans are usually DM adjucation, so if the answer is given in good faith i. So, I couldn't sleep and decided to work on that. Here's the best I got until the moment - using only PHB. I have done the math for 3 builds so far, all using Variant Human and fighting style Archery when multiclassed:.
Sneak Attack procs are assumed every round, as there are melee allies. I'm the first to say I was not very creative with the use of subclasses or magic items. For the Rogue 3, Crossbow Expert build, assuming we can attack with the same hand crossbow twice, we have nine possible situations. Sign up to join this community. Not sure Rogue needs any secondary stat for DPR, but the info is there. Rogue has access to one uncommon permanent magic item. Assume there's place for hiding every turn, if that's the best use for Bonus Action using Cunning Action.
The first level is rogue, though. For Sneak Attack purposes, the Rogue has melee allies to trigger it. Any mundane item is fine, as long as it has a reasonable GP cost for a 3rd level character, so roughly gp for the entire build. As a note, this is an actual character I intend to play.
Thus, if you are going to suggest something really crazy "buy a ballista and fire with it"please explain how I'm supposed to enter a dungeon with that. That's to say: it's not just a random thought experiment, it needs to be actually playable in a real table. The DPR should be sustained i.
Enemies' AC is higher than usual for this level, so I'm not sure my standard Variant Human with Sharpshooter will be good - even if it is, I'm interested in knowing if there are better options. So Just playing around. Limiting builds to Point buy so they don't require crazy starting rolls, basic day 1 character that you would show up with built with in the rules. So no 1,gp platemail or magic items Can anyone improve on these? Because otherwise we get into "what if" arguments about moving numbers and changing scenarios that will support the agreement of the person making it No reactions because the setup is not player controlled No AC8 or AC19 if you hit AC no longer matters No who does what first because in a real game that is fluid No limiting damage to the HP max of a specific enemy because we are not comparing enemies but Player characters and enemies will very from game to game Just raw damage which is why I did a range and an average That just cuts down on arguments. There are all kinds of class guides out there for your next Dungeons and Dragons Character.

Re: Highest dpr archery build? Doesn't it actively Change depending on Level? I would personally bet its Valor Bard.

But most of the times that's not true at all. Most people start playing at very low levels, if not at level one. Most campaigns end at level You can have a good character with that planning at lower levels, but it won't be a good DPR archer. Are you going to wait aaaall the levels until 11lv? Come on. So, if you're going to start from low levels, you have Eldritch Knight, Battlemaster Fighter, Hunter Ranger, or even Assassin Rogue if you want to be a sniper archer.
What about a ranged Kensai for neat bonus action add of 1d4 to all attacks? That's nice too. Effective and fun.The MOST Annoying \u0026 Powerful Paladin Character Build EVER D\u0026D 5E
